+ Roman Blumenthal du 24 juillet au 7 août 2010 Message Salon Downtown Zurich
Roman Blumenthal, born in 1980 in Chur. Lives and works in Zürich.
1. Could you describe your work?
The work I show in this exhibition is « thomas und gerhard ». It’s two objects – one is called « thomas und gerhard (thomas) » and the other « thomas und gerhard (gerhard) ». I just have a photo of thomas right now, but both objects are made out of things I found in second-hand warehouses. For « thomas & gerhard (gerhard ») i also used a self-made cube.
2.What are you referring to? What are the references enclosed in your work?
It’s very much influenced by siege machines, although my objects don’t really have a function. They just pretend like having one.
3.How would you like your artwork to be red or felt by the audience?
Just read it as a contrived action involving constant pursuit, near captures and repeated escapes.
4. What is the most intimate part of this artwork?
In the end, my work is often about broken hearts and human foolishness.
